If we look at the membership figures for the last 25 years we will see that there were 27 initiations and 19 joining members, compared to the 78 initiations and 29 joining members for the preceding period. This reveals a problem common to many masonic lodges, one of recruitment and retention, a problem which is being addressed at all levels of the Craft. Meanwhile, our ceremonies and meetings continue to be performed well by a nucleus of dedicated and proficient brethren who actively encourage and support all new members, to whom we look for the continuance of the lodge.
I am indebted to WBros Eric Hampson and John Gogay for their valuable assistance in bringing the history of The Lodge of Emulation No. 299 up to date.
